Snow Day Part 2

The last time we updated, we had a massive snow storm, followed by a lazy snow day. Last night we had a surprising snow storm, and now,an even more surprising snow day. We were lucky enough to have a few nice days of sunshine and warmer temperatures in between, but that was crushed in a matter of a few hours...

So, where have we been? What have we been doing?
I have been mostly busy with the Rocky Horror Show, which opened, and then closed this past Saturday night. Nate has been busy with usual, work, then school. Well, not so much work anymore.....Nate was fired from his job recently, and has since been on the hunt, not finding many options. It sucks, quite a bit actually. They say, be careful what you say on the Internet, and I am still going to be careful, but in my opinion, Nate did not deserve to loose his job. He works harder than any person I have ever met, and I feel that he was wronged. I was going to describe that situation more, but I have been trying to get better at risk assessment.

I'm done.

The above was all me,and not Nate. So, if you're going to shoot anyone, let it be me.

So, February has been a busy month, and during my tech week for Rocky, and the majority of the run of the show, I was so tempted by the lure of fast food. I brought my dinner every night, usually a cold sandwich, and raw veggies, maybe some pita chips....and ate that while many people around me ordered Jimmy Johns, pizza and a variety of other fast food delivery options. The thing that was the hardest to do, was to eat a cold meal every night. I love to cook. I love to cook myself something different as often as possible, and try something new things when I can. It was frustrating to brown bag my dinner. Not to mention, working on shows is exhausting(but always rewarding) it would be so much easier to have someone else make me dinner, and then bring it to me.

I did survive the run of the show, without the help of fast food.

However; as this month draws to a close, we can not lie to to you all and tell you that we did not cheat. We did cheat, Sunday morning at The Bomber Restaurant. Some of Nates old friends from Interlochen came into town and were on a quest for breakfast, Nate had wanted to catch up, and for me to meet them, so we ate french toast and pancakes, and drank coffee at the local greasy spoon.

We have no regrets, and plan to finish out the month without any more cheats. The purpose of our monthly goals is not to deprive ourselves of certain things, but to put into perspective how we consume or use that commodity over the span of a month. Not spending money on food from other sources than the grocery store has allowed us to see where our money goes, and how much we spend on food during the month. Nate noted that he spent $83.00 in the month of January on dine in/carryout etc alone. I did not calculate my average for January.....I am a little scared to, hahah. So, while we cheated just a little bit, we feel that our lesson has been learned, and will spend the rest of our days paying more careful attention to how we spend our money, and what we put in our bodies.

Next month is no caffeine month, Nate is not looking forward to it, even though it was his idea.

I do not consume that much caffeine to begin with, but this will continue to help me see where my money goes....instead of buying a soda on campus when I am thirsty of tired, sticking with my water bottle.

Nate has negotiated a deal in regards to next month because he is addicted to coffee. Mind you, there are worse things to be addicted to. Nate has promised that on March 1st, he will not drink anything caffeinated, no coffee, no soda. Nothing. He will alot himself 10$ this month to have coffee at The Ugly Mug. Limiting his caffeine consumption greatly.

february

February began with a giant snow storm. The threat of the incoming storm had been present since late last week, and as we both arrived home from work yesterday evening, we thought a trip to the grocery store was appropriate to get some dinner supplies, and while the incoming snow would have been a great excuse for chinese take-out and beer, we are upon 'No Take-Out Month' -Nate is very thankful that it is the shortest month of the year, he really likes pizza. I am for one, hoping it will instill a habit in me to NOT call Jimmy Johns. I get especially sucked into that habit when I am working on a show, and go from class, to work, to a show all night.

Nate curled up in front of the heating vent.

Anyways,so we made dinner, burgers and had a few beers and hunkered down to a nice movie....
or so we thought. We began with a romance movie that Nate had pulled from netflix, after I called the plot line in less than 10 minutes, he got frustrated with me, and found a different movie to watch. We watched The Machinist, which ended up fucking up my life for about 40 minutes, its dark, heavy, and not exactly what I had in mind.....in fact, it led me to believe that there were snow zombies outside, not that the film had anything to do with zombies, it was just dark.

That problem was remedied later in the evening, as my room mate Monica made brownies, we watched The Incredibles, made margaritas and then went to bed.

An excellent result of snowpocaplypse

So, this morning, we awoke to not as much snow on the ground as we had expected, but it is still snowing right now. Made a delicious breakfast, Nate zoned out to CBC Radio 2, and now we are off to do homework and the like for the rest of the day...Who knows if tomorrow will have work/class/practice or anything of the like

We've also decided that dining in, is a copout, if this month is no take out, then we cant just dine in either, that is cheating. That also means that no afternoon pit stops at the food places on campus for a snack.I just asked Nate if we are making The Ugly Mug and exception, he gave me his best puppy dog eyes, and nodded silently, yes.

He says if I want him to survive, he has to go to get his coffee. He also needs his coffee time, he is one for sitting in quiet and drinking his coffee. He likes it, I am willing to let coffee slide for now, March is no caffeine month, I suppose we will have to prepare for this somehow....

Anyways, here is February, no take-out,covered in a storm right now.See you doods later.
